If you’re a fan of mainstream rock, you’re probably familiar with Modest Mouse’s 2004 hit single “Float On.” That song, along with its followup “Ocean Breathes Salty” rocketed the group to success, but they were released over a decade — and three albums — after the band originally came together.
Modest Mouse was formed in 1992 by lead singer/guitarist Isaac Brock, drummer Jeremiah Green, and bassist Eric Judy. The band is known for putting darkly comic lyrics against an upbeat sound, which is thanks in part to Brock’s own eccentricity. There’s a lot more to this Portland-based group than you might think.
