From the protest songs of the Civil Rights Movement to the work of social entrepreneurs today, Sterling Spence makes the case that working for change is an art-form

Sterling is passionate about creating a more peaceful, healthy, and caring world. He strongly believes that ethical entrepreneurship and thoughtful non-profit work is the key to tackling the urgent needs of people who are oppressed, stuck in seemingly hopeless economic situations, and forgotten.

As a member of the band The Coyote Bandits, Sterling helped raise over $60,000 for non-profit Canvasback Missions. The group gave 100% of proceeds from a marathon tour up and down the West Coast. In this inspiring talk, Sterling shares his personal journey and the outcome of this unique approach to making a difference.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
