Journey into the mind of an artist as Beatriz Mejia Krumbein takes you though her experiences of violence, society, love, identity, fragmentation and wholeness.

Beatriz Mejia-Krumbein was born and raised in Colombia. She lived in Germany and Mexico before immigrating to the United States in 1987. She studied Fine Arts and Music in Colombia, and received an M.F.A. from James Madison University in Virginia, USA. She is the chair of the Art Department and director of the Brandstater Gallery at La Sierra University.

Her art deals with emigration, displacement, exploitation, violence and abuse, and implores viewers to confront the convoluted inequalities of our modern world. In layered mixed media, she creates figures and faces charged with emotions that mirror the layers and complexities of the issues she depicts.

Her artwork is included in the permanent collections of Los Angeles County Museum/Printmaking Archives, Museum of Latino-American Art, Long Beach, CA, UC Santa Barbara, CA/Caridad Project, The Huntington Museum at UT Austin, The Museum of American Art of The Smithsonian Institute/Self Help Graphics Archives, Riverside Art Museum. Riverside CA, Museo de Antioquia. Medellin, Colombia, Biblioteca Publica Piloto. Medellin, Colombia, and other national and international private collections.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group.
