John Boyer is a senior instructor and researcher in the Department of Geography at Virginia Tech. He has served in this position for over a decade, during which time he has conducted multiple research projects on the viticulture industries of Virginia and North Carolina. Boyer also remains on the cutting edge of experimenting with new educational approaches for super-large classes and digital environments, and has taught over 25,000 students in his popular World Regional Geography and Geography of Wine courses. Boyer now regularly speaks at educational and technology conferences on his incorporation of new technologies and social networking tools into the 21st century classroom. John sailed as a faculty member on the Fall 2013 Semester at Sea 50th Anniversary voyage.
