In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Brothers Chad and Bret van Roden recently ended a three year journey around the world on a small sailing boat in January 2013. Inspired by Semester at Sea, their yachting experience began with an idea to sail around the world. With the purchase and renovation of a 41 foot Hudson Seawolf later named Broken Compass, the dream became reality. Their journey lasted 3 ½ years, spanned 3 oceans and 25 countries, and 38,000 nautical miles. Their website, stories and blog have inspired empowerment among followers to create positive life changes. Bret and Chad both sailed as students with Semester at Sea in 2006 and 2004 respectively.
