Owning our energy future: Dr. Paul Bryce at TEDxBellingen

Bio: Paul has been Chief Technical Advisor on micro-hydroelectricity for the United Nations (UNIDO) and consultant in Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and Fiji. He worked closely with communities to design and build locally-managed energy systems in conjunction with the NGO, APACE Inc.

Topic: Paul's talk envisions the concepts and frameworks for our Shire to take control of its electricity supply and use. He sees the possibilities of community ownership and community responsibility for our electricity supply and demand, as distinct from consumers accepting the vagaries of the electricity industry and its arcane regulations that have contributed so much to our power bills in recent years.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
