Niger's defense ministry has confirmed that suspected Islamist militants killed at least 71 soldiers near the border with Mali. A night-time ambush on a military camp in Inates in the southwest also wounded twelve soldiers and left several more missing. The so-called "Islamic State" has long been active in the area.
