The 2019 election in Nigeria seems to be a race between sitting President Muhammadu Buhari of the ruling All Progressives Congress and Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party. For decades, unelected "political godfathers" have played an outsized roll in deciding Nigerian elections. But growing discontent and an increasingly connected electorate are helping younger candidates reach more people through social media. Is the influence of the godfathers waning?
