As a toxicology professor at Christchurch's University of Canterbury, Ian researches our future ability to procreate and prosper from the angle of endocrine disrupting chemicals in food and is particularly interested in how these chemicals, which mimic hormones, affect human growth and development.
He has a BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry from the University of Bath, a PhD in Biochemistry (Toxicology) from the University of Birmingham, and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists. Ian has worked in academic, corporate pharmaceutical and public health environments on the toxicity of anticancer drugs and food.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
