The 4th World Indigenous Arts Festival held in Shah Alam drew a fascinated crowd of spectators to catch indigenous dance groups from all over the world perform one after another. This video showcases the dance troupe from Malaysia performing a pulsating dance called Sewang. This is a traditional tribal dance performed by the indigenous groups of Peninsula Malaysia, particularly amongst the Semai tribes who are mainly found in the forests of Pahang and Kelantan.The costumes are assembled from bamboo leaves and even the musical instruments are just simple bamboo sticks. The dance is used as a form of performance in many occasions such as funerals, thanksgiving and even to drive away evil spirits.The dance is lead by a male who also sings.
