Sarah Steimel is an assistant professor in the Communication Department at Weber State. She has both research and teaching interests in organizational communication, gender and communication, and research methods. Specifically, her current research focuses on communication in nonprofit organizations, especially between organizational staff and the diverse clients they serve. Through her research and teaching, Sarah has found that our society's focus on aggressive persuasion divides us. Sarah today will talk about invitational rhetoric, which focuses more on creating understanding through communication. By fostering invitational rhetoric, communication can help us pursue our collective dreams.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
