I’m just a teen, but recently I had to turn into a detective to save our school from chaos! This true detective story might help you decide to be a bit more proactive when it comes to injustice! Let me know what you would do if you were me and whether you have any gossip girls/bullies in your school!

Have you ever heard of an old TV show called Gossip Girl? Recently my school turned into something like that – only it wasn’t remotely as glamorous or fancy. I’m a high school senior in a small town in Arkansas and this year a certain Snapchat account appeared and became crazy popular with all the students. It was publishing all of the students’ dirtiest and darkest secrets. And who was this Gossip Girl? That’s one secret I’m about to tell you.

It all began innocently enough – the account started posting some juicy details of drama between cheerleaders: who stole whose boyfriend, who got kicked off the team, who got wasted at a party… Since these girls were kinda mean to everybody else at the school, it was rather entertaining to watch them fall out of everyone’s good graces, so Gossip Girl’s account rapidly grew in popularity.

But then it started posting gossip about everyone. And it got meaner, a lot meaner! It revealed how one girl was undergoing serious medical procedures and wore a wig to hide her balding head; it made public how one senior guy had to secretly work to provide for his family after his alcoholic father left them; it even published a story of a girl whose step-dad was abusive toward her and her mom. Whoever decided to make these things public has to be beyond cruel!

The worst part was that some students actually got on board with it – and they started sending tips to the Gossip Girl and publicly embarrassing their victims. While the rest of us… We would shudder every time our phones buzzed, hoping that whatever the newest gossip was about – our names wouldn’t pop up as the punch line.

It lasted for a couple months and I was fed up with it! Even though my name never appeared in Gossip Girl’s account – I guess I’m way too boring – I couldn’t just let our school sink into this madness and terror. I decided that I had to put a stop to it! (pause) Only I wasn’t sure how. I mean, what could I do?

· Should I talk to the principal? But what could he do? He has no control over Snapchat and even if he tried to ban Gossip Girl’s account it would probably just make things worse.

· Should I try to confront this anonymous bully? No, I’d just get myself into his or her spotlight, without solving anything.

· Should I report the account? But what would stop this person from simply creating another account. I had to find out who was behind it!

My high school is a small one – we only have about 300 students, but even that was an enormous amount of suspects. I needed to narrow my circle!

I spent several hours analyzing all the latest gossip to find a pattern – the majority of it was focused on senior female students. That allowed me to figure out that maybe the mysterious bully would also be a girl from our grade. I mean, it would make sense, you know – someone crossed her and she decided to avenge herself. After all, it all began with some cheerleader drama, right?

It was a vague lead, but it was all I had, so I decided to follow it. I made a list of all the senior girls who were never harassed by Gossip Girl – turned out there were only four of them. All of them were… under the radar, so to speak, quiet, nice – most students wouldn’t know that they even existed.

During the next week I found ways to befriend all of them separately: I met Clair in one of my classes, sat next to Brittany in the cafeteria, and even joined our local book club to introduce myself to Anny and Lily. All of them were sweet and innocent-looking girls, who might have never appeared in Gossip Girl’s posts simply because they didn’t do anything bad, nor did they have any dark secrets. But I didn’t let that discourage me and went through with my plan: I told each and every one of them a fake secret, changing a little detail each time, to see which variation of the story would end up on Gossip Girl’s account. It turned out to be....
