Evan Marks
ecologist -- trailblazer
The Ecology Center, Executive Director
"The idea is to invoke a global perspective to our relationship to Earth and it's appropriate celebration. We're all here together, let's all stand in recognition of everything this wonderful planet offers. Without it, we're nothing."
Evan has a remarkable background. A graduate of University of California, Santa Cruz with a degree in agroecology (the study of sustainable agriculture), he worked extensively in California and Hawaii and internationally in Costa Rica, Peru, Mexico, Ghana and Nigeria. He learned first-hand that people have the ability to directly impact the environment by taking matters into their own hands.
Inspired to instigate change in the community in which he grew up, he founded the San Juan Capistrano based Ecology Center in 2008 to serve as a community hub for a solutions-based ecological educational setting. Since then, Evan has endeavored to make it the authority on sustainable/green living.
Evan is motivated by the opportunities to make a difference. Tired of getting sick from surfing and wading through a beach full of trash, he wants to reconnect people with the natural systems which support all of us. The Ecology Center highlights empowering and cutting-edge environmental perspectives that can be applied to the way we live our lives, making it possible for us to coexist with a thriving environment.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
