Engaging in Education: A Love Story: Emma Sandoval at TEDxABQED

As the Youth Organizer with the Southwest Organizing Project and a member of Families United for Education, Emma Sandoval works to engage youth and their families in the education system. Her passion for engagement arose from her own love affair with learning as a student of color. Although she was a smart and enthusiastic student, institutionalized racism in the school system and a turbulent home life led to Emma dropping out of high school. She now works to ensure that all students have the opportunity to love learning and succeed in education.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
