It’s the first day of spring and Australia’s unique creatures have an extra bounce in their step. For many it’s the start of the breeding season and across the country males do their best to attract a mate, from singing and dancing to throwing punches. In the grassland’s Eastern grey kangaroos’ box for breeding rights while high in the canopy a koala mother must fight off unwanted attention. But not all Aussie animals are looking for a spring fling, some are more interested in finding a meal. From the desert to the rainforest deadly predators hunt. Freshwater crocodiles snatch their dinner from the air at dusk while Tasmanian devils wait until nightfall to fight over a wallaby carcass. Whether it’s dinner or a date, there’s no spring break for the creatures down under.
