At the start of May, animals from Mexico to Peru and as far west as the Galapagos Islands live out their daily dramas. Giant tortoises warm themselves for an epic migration, cottontop tamarins sleep in to avoid nocturnal predators and Humboldt penguins set off for daily fishing expeditions. While the midday sun threatens to desiccate the golden poison frog’s eggs, marine iguanas count on its warmth to reheat after foraging for seaweed below the waves. Late afternoon sees a bizarre mass stranding in Mexico before everyone returns to their homes in preparation for another night hiding from predators.
