Stephanie Brennan has worked with the most vulnerable in our communities for over 30 years. Recently her focus has been on people sleeping rough in Western Sydney where it has become almost impossible to find affordable housing. She has worked with the Aboriginal community in Western Sydney where gaps in life expectancy between indigenous and non-indigenous Australians continue. This work has been recognised through a number of high-profile government and industry awards.

Stephanie has also had substantial experience as a human rights campaigner and negotiator, both nationally and internationally. This TEDx talk will focus on her personal experiences in Western Sahara's desert refugee camps and with the National Union of Saharawi women, who run services in the camps. This is the story of how a white middle-class 'do-gooder' from Australia was confronted by the suffering and the resilience of the people of the Sahara and how this transformed her life.
