Richard D. Pineda (PhD - Wayne State University) is a native El Pasoan who returned home ten years ago to join the faculty at The University of Texas at El Paso. Pineda is Director of the Sam Donaldson Center for Communication Studies and a tenured, Associate Professor in the Department of Communication. Dr. Pineda's research examines the rhetorical dimensions of media, politics, and ethnic identity in the United States. In addition to his academic research, Pineda is fascinated with El Paso history and contemporary local politics.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
