Jess Tomlin has spent her career working with women on the margins both in Canada and around the world. Building and reshaping programs and organizations is her passion, which she has played out in a variety of settings- in battered women's shelters in rural Ontario, in refugee camps in the Middle East and in multilateral institutions in Africa. In May 2012, Jess joined The MATCH International Women's Fund as Executive Director. Since coming on board, she has been instrumental in bringing the 38-year-old Canadian organization into a new era as Canada's first and only international fund for women. The MATCH Fund carves out much needed space for the vital efforts of women's rights organizations working in the global South to hold ground and break ground for women's human rights. Jess holds an undergraduate degree in Women's Studies and an MA in Leadership Studies.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
