The A3 is a very compelling car featuring wonderful German Engineering and 2 fuel efficient engine choices. The 2015 Audi A3 tested here is the FWD 1.8 model with the Scuba Blue Metallic Paint Job. The price starts at $31k. So is buying an entry level Audi about getting a great engineered car or about buying the prestigious name?
Under the hood is a 1.8 liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that makes 170 horsepower and 200 lb-ft. of torque. Those power figures do not seem that great but the A3 makes great use of the power across the entire REV range. The 6-speed automatic trans is built for fuel economy. The A3 gets 23 MPG in the city and 33 MPG on the highway.
The 2015 Audi A3 is quite a conundrum: it is small but not inexpensive, premium but not luxurious, fun to drive but not a performance car, and it offers good value at the same time it offers no value at all.
