In this episode of Real or Fake, I follow through on my promise to personally investigate claims that an Island off the coast of Colombia is the most populated island in the world. The Island is actually called Santa Cruz del Islote and sits just off the Caribbean coast of Colombia in South America.
If you want to go to Santa Cruz del Islote, the closest large international airport is at Cartagena, Colombia.
As described by Wikipedia, Santa Cruz Del Islote or Holy Cross Islet) is an island located off the coast of Bolívar Department in Colombia. It is a part of the Archipelago of San Bernardo. Its significant population compared with its small size results in its being one of the most densely populated islands on Earth
The South American island has a total area of just above one hectare (12,140.57 m2). The inhabitants have to use neighboring islands as cemetery and recreation grounds, and they work on the mainland rather than on the island. There is one school, with one teacher. The Mucura Island Hotels are a prime source of work for the residents.
