Understanding Syllables is essential for pronouncing words in English correctly. What is a syllable? A syllable is a beat. Every word in English is made up of different beats which come together to form words. If you don’t have enough syllables, or you add too many syllables to a word, then it is hard for people to understand what you’re trying to say.

This short English lesson clearly explains what a syllable is and provides examples of syllables in commonly mispronounced words. Did you know that both the words “chocolate” and “favourite” have only two syllables!?!
