We're not just us -- we're you and I. But is my "me" just like your "you" -- or could you be something different? Why is it unavoidable to be an individual, and what are we going to do about it?

John Baker is Professor of Anthropology at Moorpark College. His research interests focus on the ways in which the biological capabilities that enable human consciousness are given expression within different cultures. He is a former president of the Society for the Anthropology of Consciousness, and is currently a co-editor of Time & Mind: The Journal of Archaeology, Consciousness and Culture. Baker is co-author (together with Michael Winkelman) of Supernatural as Natural: A Biocultural Approach to Religion.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
