Herman Webster Mudgett, aka Dr. H. H. Holmes, was one of America's first serial killers. Brought back into the spotlight in 2003 via Erik Larson's best-selling literary non-fiction account of his crimes, "The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair That Changed America," Holmes confessed to 27 murders, though the truth is pretty murky. Holmes obtained his medical degree from the University of Michigan's Department of Medicine and Surgery, and was known for running successful cons and scams, so he was well-equipped for some pretty dark dealings. This is the morbid thing H.H. Holmes sold to medical schools.
