Make Me a Mix Tape: Brendan Maclean relates the secrets of The Lost Art of the Mixtape.

Sparkling songwriter, cynical social commentator and professional Twitter addict, Brendan Maclean is a performer who likes to make a point. After five years behind the microphone presenting new music at triple j he has recently been making his mark with music of his own, having won The Australian Youth Week Songwriters award twice and touring with the likes of Amanda Palmer, Kate Miller-Heidke and Savage Garden.

Not to let himself get too comfortable in one career, Brendan also has made a habit of cropping up in a film or two including Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby, playing the dubious descendant of Beethoven: Ewing Klipsringer.

This year he was signed to Universal Publishing and has released two singles, Stupid and Winner with his infamous video-clips being featured by Buzzfeed, CNN and MSNBC.

Brendan's commentary, focussing on music and Queer Youth Activism has been published by the likes of ABC Drum, Faster Louder, MamaMia and The Age.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
