Alexander Danilowicz, 16, is the editor-in-chief of his high school newspaper, The Augustinian, at St. Augustine High School in San Diego, California. He is an award-winning public speaker and a recurring member on his high school's Principal's List. In 2010, he won the National District 41 Optimist Oratorical Contest. In 2013, he won first place at the regional level of the MD-4 Lions Club Student Speaker Contest. This summer Alexander went hiking with his father near Snæfellsjökull in Iceland and attended a journalism camp at Stanford University. Alexander also takes pride in speaking Spanish fluently. But, most of all, he enjoys playing board games with his dad and baking chocolate chip cookies with his mom.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
