Silverspot butterflies are disappearing from their native habitats and the Oregon Zoo is helping in the conservation effort. Tiny caterpillars are hatched from eggs and fed for months until they are ready to pupate into a chrysalis. This secretive process of transformation has remained unseen by butterfly keepers.Until now.For the first time ever, the Oregon Zoo documented the pupation of a silverspot butterfly larvae by snapping over 15,000 photos during the night of transformation.
