Thanks to the sport of drifting, Nissan's small rear wheel drive sports car, the 240SX or Silvia, has been the mainstay of both amateur and professional drifters thanks to the S13 and S14 a pair of lightweight chassis capable of swallowing an assortment of power plants up front and most importantly sending power to the back. However due to the abusive nature of drifting, the once abundant stock of affordable examples in the used car market has almost been depleted. This opened the door for new cars like the Scion FR-S and Hyundai Genesis Coupe to go toe to toe with the traditional rwd offerings like the Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro and more expensive German luxury vehicles. But in a world created by the abundance of cheap rear wheel drive sports cars, Nissan is now surprisingly out of the game, with concepts like the IDX Nismo drumming up interest from consumers, it looks like the hamburger brand is headed back in the right direction. So, should Nissan build and S16 to reinvigorate the Silvia's nameplate, professional drifters Dai Yoshihara, Darren McNamara, Toshiki Yoshioka and Ryan Tuerck sure think so.
