Sam takes a look at the current state of scientific literacy amongst the general public and at some reasons as to why it might be too low. He looks at some scientists who have succeeded in capturing the public imagination, and some who've remained fairly unknown, to look at how we might make science engaging for a wider audience.

Sam Gregson is a physicist, comedian and resident anarchist at the University of Cambridge and the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, Switzerland. In terms of the public understanding and appreciation of science, its importance, relevance and benefits, he improves these perceptions through active scientific outreach and scientific stand-up comedy.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
