This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. In this talk, Benson Hawk challenges educators to consider the important role of risk-taking in the pedagogy of the future.
Benson Hawk has taught in the Humanities Department at Newark Academy since 2002. He earned his undergraduate degree in history from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and his law degree from the University of Minnesota. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. at Drew University. The working title of his dissertation is, "the Best Diagnosis that Money Can Buy"—the American Press's Role in Popular Medicine, Self-Diagnosis and Self-Fulfillment in the 1930s.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
