There are artists who paint or dance or write, and artists who make things happen. David Gere seems to be both. "There's something about brainstorming and concept building and communication that is part of my creative personality," says the UCLA professor, former performing arts critic, and creator of Make Art/Stop AIDS and a half dozen equally mind-blowing projects.
"Some people do library or lab research, but this is the thing that I do."
