How do we learn best? What factors and obstacles can influence our learning experience? Ashley Welsh speaks about the complex sets of hurdles, failures, successes and emotions that shape the university experience for many students.

Throughout her university career, Ashley, a 3rd year PhD candidate in Undergraduate Science Education, has witnessed many students struggle with the demands and expectations of being an undergraduate student. As a teaching assistant, a graduate student investigating undergraduate science student experience and even as a coach of a university sports team, she has seen the difficulties that many students face in terms of balancing their academic demands, extra-curricular activities and family responsibilities.

By sharing the stories of her students, she hopes to explore how we can improve and learn from our own learning experiences and apply that to our education, careers and personal lives.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
