Sixteen years after he dropped out of high school, Eric Schofield is now on his way to becoming a teacher. Eric talks about using "food literacy" to get students more engaged in the learning process, while also motivating them to explore beyond their horizons.

Eric Schofield is a current Bachelor of Education student at UBC. Throughout his past experiences working with "At-Risk" youth in high schools and community organizations, he found it difficult to get students interested in subjects such as Social Studies and Science. As a result, he developed a "Food Literacy" program, which combines the subjects of Home Economics and Human Geography to get students to think critically and get involved with the learning process. He hopes to communicate the value of experimental learning and getting students out of the classroom environment.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
