Two Reuters journalists jailed for their reporting of the Rohingya crisis in Myanmar have been freed from prison. Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo were released under a presidential amnesty after a global campaign against their detention. They had faced seven years in prison, but were suddenly freed. The journalists were arrested December 2017. Their case drew international criticism and prompted a global outcry by human rights campaigners. A spotlight was put on Myanmar's State Counselor and de facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi, who was already under pressure for the oppression of the Rohingya minority. UN investigators said it amounted to genocide.
