Hey Guys, Bill here… There’s always pictures of big rats that go around on the internet. The latest, is this one and it appears to be making the rounds on Facebook...
Man holding giant rat was sent in by billschannel viewers like Jade Estandarte, Emmanuel Respicio and Dencel Matanguihan.
And what they all want to know is… Is this monster real, or is it some kind of photoshop hoax?
Why don’t we set a trap and see what we can find out…
I went out looking around on the internet and the picture is everywhere… but it’s only been up a few days so there is little in the way of hoax busting reviews.
So, what I did was I turned to my incredibly smart friends on Facebook to see if they knew anything and I got my answer in no time at all…
And the answer is…. FAKE!
Facebook viewer Mark Lester Tejada from Singapore was the first one to come up with this. It’s an article from a website called Stomp and it shows an alternative angle of the event. And this angle shows the true size of the rat.
The original picture is a classic case of forced perspective. You see, the rod he is holding the rat with makes the rat much closer to the picture than the man - so it tricks us into thinking it is much larger…
Ok, so that does it for this edition of real or fake.
I want to thank everyone who helped me with this story and don’t forget if you have a picture or video you are not sure about - send it to me at billschannel!gmail.com
