Rachel Abril is the business/logistics team leader for the Stanford Solar Car Project, which began in 1989 and is an entirely student-run, nonprofit organization fueled by its members' passion for environmentally sustainable technology. The team designs and builds solar-powered cars to race in the 1,864-mile-long World Solar Challenge across the Australian Outback. This year, the club took fourth place. Providing a unique opportunity for Stanford students to gain hands-on engineering and business experience, the club fosters a tight-knit community of students with diverse backgrounds and levels of experience.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
