A court in London will begin hearing the extradition case against Julian Assange today. If approved, the founder of Wikileaks would be sent to the US, where he faces up to 175 years in prison if convicted of conspiracy under the US espionage act. Assange’s supporters have been gathering outside the court, and yesterday hundreds of protesters marched through the British capital demanding his release. They are concerned that an Assange conviction in the US would make it easier to prosecute journalists who publish leaked classified information.
