Afnan, age 22, is from Damascus, Syria. She studied architecture at Damascus University before moving to Saudi Arabia. She continues to work with her organization, Syrian Missing And Martyrs, which helps to link together missing loved ones, as a result of the Syrian conflict. For the duration of the conflict, Afnan has been very active in human rights work, primarily volunteering her time with youth organizations.

Jamie has over 14 years of experience in communications, politics, and international development. In January 2013, she co-launched The Andi Leadership Institute for Young Women (ALI) which seeks to give young women the necessary skills to become leaders in their own communities. Previously she has worked for The Institute for Inclusive Security and for the UN Women's South Asia Regional Office in Delhi, in the anti-human trafficking and women, peace and security division.

Becca Weinstein

Becca, 23, is a recent graduate of Georgetown University. She currently interns for PeacePlayers International in Washington, DC. Her ALI project delves into her interest in the intersection of conflict, culture, and education: she is working to develop a curriculum for Palestinian and Israeli preschoolers.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
