Cross-border violence between Israeli armed forces and militants in the Gaza Strip has entered a second day. Israel says it has intercepted dozens of rockets fired from Hamas-controlled Gaza and has bombed targets in response. The latest violence was sparked after a surprise rocket fired from Gaza hit a house near Tel Aviv. This comes as the United States reverses decades of policy in the Middle East by officially recognizing the Golan Heights as Israeli territory. US President Donald Trump affirmed the decision on Twitter last week. During Israeli Premier Benjamin Netanyahu's visit to Washington last week, Trump signed a proclamation calling for recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the territory.
