To mark this occasion and to work towards a world where women and men, girls and boys, in all their diversity are fully equal, the European Commission launched an ambitious Gender Equality Strategy for the coming 5 years. Helena Dalli, European Commissioner for Equality, said that it will ensure that the gender perspective is taken on board in the development of all new policies, projects and initiatives, while specific measures will be taken to ensure that all women and men are free, and able to thrive and lead.
