After 6 years of corporate finance and strategy work, Justine entered the development sector in 2008 as a Network Promotion Manager for Viva, a charity that works on behalf of vulnerable children around the world. Her initial work addressed issues of human trafficking in South Africa by creating the National Freedom Network. Since 2012, Justine has been based in Hong Kong in the role of Network Consultant for Viva's work in the Philippines and Cambodia. At TEDxHKUST, Justine will be speaking about an approach to development which enables the local response to children at risk to become more credible, comprehensive, connected and concerted -- thus giving dignity and empowerment to the local people who are hard at work in their own communities.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
