It's unusual but not unheard of for a male lion to hunt alone. No other predator in Africa could take down an animal four times his own weight the way this lion managed to take down his buffalo meal. But he's not hunting for himself anymore, he's hunting for his family. Once the alpha male has had his fill, he calls over the mother of his cubs, who takes her share of the carcass. Replenished, she's now able to produce enough milk to feed their cubs. This scene from Wildlife Icons is just another wonderful illustration of how lions benefit from group living.
