Marquis Cabrera, the founder of Foster Skills, shares his secret recipe for starting a social enterprise.

Unlike most recent grads, Marquis Cabrera decided to spend his first years after college helping improve the foster care system in Massachusetts. Marquis, who was himself shuffled through foster homes as a child, created Foster Skills, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping empower children and teens in the foster system. Pulling from his own experience in the foster system helped Marquis identify the changes needed to create a successful social enterprise, but there was a lot more to it than just that. In this talk he shares how he was able to create a successful social enterprise with the hope that others will follow suit.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
