Jessica Anderson is a senior majoring in African & African American Studies with a concentration in identity, diversity and aesthetics. She began singing about 11 years ago in her hometown of Chicago. She received classical training under the tutelage of opera singer Peg Plambeck and released her own EP, Stronger, in 2010. She has starred in multiple shows, including Into the Woods (the witch), Children of Eden (Mama Noah), Pippin (narrator) and The Color Purple (Celie). Anderson directed the Stanford Gospel Choir and co-founded her own Afro-fusion jazz ensemble, the Chicago Collective. She has opened for African pop star Angélique Kidjo and hip-hop artists Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. Higher Ground is her first original production.
