Herd Mentality - Should You Do What Everyone Else Is Doing

If you blindly support a thought, movement, person, or authority without ever questioning it, then you may have a herd mentality. But, should you do what everyone else is doing? When making decisions, it's natural to want to see what other people are doing. However, the path taken by the majority may not always be best for us. Just because everyone else seems to be doing something doesn't mean that you should do it too.

The psychology of herd mentality (also knowns as mob mentality) reveals how people can be influenced by their peers and society on an emotional rather than rational basis. Of course, there are times when following the crowd has merit. But other times, herd behavior can lead us down the wrong path.

So it's important that you learn how to think for yourself and evaluate whether your choices are really yours or if they're influenced by others. Independent thinking allows you to make the right decisions for you.
