There are now as many if not more self storage facilities than Starbucks in the U.S. In her humorous and personal TEDxMonterey talk, happiness coach Betty Sproule reveals her program for lightening up and unstuffing our lives.

Betty Sproule is director of Strategy Services at Chasm Institute in Palo Alto, California. The combination of career and raising two now-grown sons, gave Betty the opportunity to acquire so much stuff that she realized the time had come to unstuff her life. Betty and her husband of 41 years, J. Michael Sproule, promote sustainable living in their book, The Stuff Cure: How we lost 8,000 pounds of stuff for fun, profit, virtue and a better world.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
