Robert Mugabe, Zimbabwe's former president, has died at the age of 95. The news was confirmed by current President Emmerson Mangagwa, who mourned him as an "icon of liberation." Mugabe was Zimbabwe's first post-independence leader and held onto power for 37 years. But during that time, he ruled the country with an iron fist, crushing dissent and destroying the economy. He was forced to resign by the military in 2017.
