Ruth Silberstein has served in the field of education for twenty years in private schools and twenty seven years in public schools in the State of Hawaii. Her experiences as a teacher in grades to 2 to 12, as an elementary vice-principal and principal, and complex area superintendent have broaden her perspectives of education and the complexity of the educational forces at work on the state, national and international levels. As a principal, the school transformed from the restructuring status to a school of good standing, unconditional. In order to keep the momentum of growth on-going while addressing global problems, the school then created its STEM process/program. It is here that the students began to drive the curriculum.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
