Feeding the Rat- What Can Happen When You Make Philanthropy Accountable: Kevin Starr at TEDxBYU

Legendary British climber Mo Anthoine used the phrase "Feeding the Rat" to describe the intensity of experience he craved. Mainstream philanthropy provides few opportunities to feed the rat; however, when you make yourself fully accountable for impact, charity is transformed into real investment with all its risk and opportunity. Real impact is harder to find than money -- a quest for impact turns the doer and donor power relationship on its head, and accountability for impact gives philanthropy an edge it badly needs.
