There's been a story floating around on the internet for years about a beached whale that was blown up with dynamite to help get rid of it's carcass... But is this story "fake" or "Real?"

I did some checking around... and came across some video of a news cast from 1970...

It shows a reporter named Paul Linnman reporting for a TV news station called KATU News.

Linnman reports the 45Ft, 8 TON Sperm whale was rotting on the beach in Florence Oregon and no one knew how to get rid of it... so the Oregon department of Transportation decided to blow it up with dynamite...

REPORTER: the hope was the whale would be disintegrated and the small pieces left would be even by seagulls and scavengers....

They didn't know how much dynamite to use, but decided 10 cases would do the job...

According to the reporter, it was way too much dynamite and whale parts rained down for over a quarter of a mile...

Reporter: "A large chunk hit a parked car over a quarter of a mile away..."

In the end, the remaining parts of the whale were buried and the Department of Transportaion said next time they would tow the whale out to sea before exploding it.

So, now it's your turn. Do you think this story is real? Or is it a hoax? Let me know in the comment section below and if you have proof, let me know what it is. Hopefully we can solve this mystery and do a follow up soon.
